Fall is a GREAT time to PLANT woody ornamentals. The cooler temperatures and increased rainfall help plants establish quicker and reduce the need for supplemental watering!
When planting, remember to score the roots on any plant grown in a plastic pot. Use a knife to cut the roots vertically (like cutting a two-layer birthday cake) about every 3 to 5 inches around the plant. Pruning the roots promotes new root growth and gets them growing out of the shape of the pot. ~Michigan Gardener
